technical – eerie – clean but old

TOPIC

I would like to catalogue some of my work with sculpture and even include some instructions for how I go about using certain techniques. I plan on aiming more educational than to show off. I want to be able to use it as reference with my friends who are interested in sculpting and have worked with hobby stuff but not in the sphere and topics I go towards.

FLOW

I’m going tri-fold. I’ve made them before and I find them more engaging than a two fold option. They’re also more common in the circles I run in and they also tend to hold up better. They’re study and look good and professional on display.

GENRE

When it comes to styling the look of something its important to register the genre and tone. To go with something sleek and futuristic or something ancient and gothic. Depending of the flavor of style you use to present your work you might make it look like an old newspaper publication or an older idea of what clean looked like that clashes with modern sensibilities. I will end up riding that line. Type choices are really important for selling things, i find myself drifting towards san-serifs even though most things in my circles love them. They’re important in capturing a feeling of a lost future, hope and dreams. The people yearn for something greater but gravity will always bring them down to acknowledge that that path cannot be paved with sins and blood. WHOOPS! ALL SERIFS.

REFLECTION

Most of this project was about managing a large amount of text in a digestible way. I appreciate the work put into dictionaries more now. providing handy definitions to many odd terms in a way that doesn’t overwhelm and makes sense. in my case I wasn’t going alphabetically and way sorting them into subtopics. some some subtopics had subtopics. the goal was to make something that can be looked at in order to understand terminology used by hobby modelers. it is nowhere near extensive. only ended up scratching the surface. i had fun playing with my toys for the front and back covers.

addendum: less than a week after finishing this one of the brands mentioned did a really stupid rebrand so that’s outdated.
